Fall Fashion: Day 3 La Bella Donna + Mock Turtleneck

I'm a lover of dolmans for fall and winter. They are cozy, roomy and quick to sew. I couldn't believe that I hadn't made the La Bella Donna yet so I quickly remedied that but with a twist.

Day 3: La Bella Donna (with hacked neckline)

I couldn't just make a LBD by the pattern, I had to hack it. I wanted a cozy warm top that just wraps around me. That's exactly what I got by adding a mock turtleneck to the dolman curved hem tunic version of the LBD.

Pattern Details

The La Bella Donna features sizing from XS-5X. The pattern is drafted for knit fabric only with a shirt and tunic length. It includes 3 sleeve options: short, 3/4 and long cuffs. For the neckline, choose from a neckband, hood or cowl. It also includes A0 and projector files.

When I feel a super soft fabric, I know I want to make a dolman. My favorite dolman's are made from sweater and waffle knits. This time though, I tried a new to me fabric, Mily Mae Fabrics super soft cheetah hacci. This fabric feels so soft without being too thick.

In regards to fit, I measure between a Small and Medium. I chose to make the size small with this make to have a bit slimmer fit. With this being a dolman, those usually run larger since the armsyce is scooped.

This make is the tunic length, long sleeve with cuffs. I've modified the neckline (details below) to have a mock turtleneck, borrowing that from the Arlington

Since I wanted a mock turtleneck for this dolman, I added the neckline from the Arlington Sweater. To do this, trace the Arlington front and back necklines onto tracing paper. Apply this to the La Bella Donna, lining up center fold line and shoulder line. Keep in mind the turtleneck is a narrower opening than any of the LBD necklines so you'll be making a smaller neck opening. cut the corresponding mock turtleneck pattern piece from Arlington.

Would I make any changes next time?

Nope, although I think I'd give the gathered sleeve a try next time.
