2022 Pattern Review: Greenstyle Creations Clara Wrap Top

Greenstyle Creations Clara Wrap Top

After kicking off 2022 with a sew from my goals list, I was ready to make another. The point of buying patterns is to sew them! If you want to read more about my 2022 goal, the 12 patterns I've purchased in the past and want to sew, checkout this postNext up, I decided to make the Clara Wrap Top.

Purchased: December 12, 2021

Sewn: January 13, 2022

Pattern Details

Fitted crossover top with darts and wrap around waist tie.

The download includes size A0, US letter no-trim, A4 and projector files. I used the projector file which worked well as the lines are bold and easy to follow.

Sizing: XXS- 3XL; Over Bust 29" - 44"; Hip 34" - 50"

Skill Level: Confident Beginner

Price: $12

Fit

This top is a fitted crossover wrap top. To get the body hugging fit, there's under bust darts on each side. The sleeve options are fitted short, 3/4 or long sleeves. I measured the following sizing but chose to sew a straight Medium.

Over Bust- 35" - M
Bust- 36" - S
Waist- 30.5" - M
Hip- 39" - M

Sewing

The sewing process was different than any I've done before. It requires attaching binding to the front neckline. Binding isn't my favorite but it holds the front neckline well. The process of attaching the wrap ties was well thought out but did take me a bit to understand executing the steps. You partially attach the ties to the bodice, then hem both together. The only thing I'd do differently next time is ensure that the hem color matches more closely to my fabric as the looper threads are visible on the backside of the ties when tied.

Fabric

The fabric I used for this Clara is slub rib sweater knit from Mily Mae Fabrics. This is a new fabric base that will be available starting January 18, 2022. This specific fabric worked well for Clara since it contains great stretch and recovery. The subtle slub finish gives a sheen and variation. I'd recommend using a similar fabric with 4-way stretch and high recovery for the Clara since it has negative ease at the bust.

Final Thoughts

Why did I buy this pattern? I've been looking for a warm layer to add over workout clothes taking the kids to school in the mornings. This seemed like a great option. I was inspired after my friend Stacey made one from Wide Lush Rib Knit last month.

Would I make this again? Yes! I love how this fits like a glove and is flattering on my body.

What did I like about this make? I like that the style is relaxed so easy to wear. It can be worn tied up tighter with high waisted bottoms or looser with leggings.

What did I not like about this make? I'm a bit uncomfortable with the intended length as it hits just above my belly button. I'm not used to showing my midline.

Would I purchase another pattern from this designers? Yes, I have quite a few Greenstyle Creations patterns already. They are drafted extremely well to get a perfect fit.

What will I pair the Clara with? I plan on wearing them with workout bottoms like GS Super G's and Spark Tights. This can easily be worn as everyday wear too with high waisted jeans or a skirt.
