Fall Fashion: Day 2 Forte Top
Day 2 of Fall Fashion made with Love Notions patterns features a fun make! I've sewn up Forte before but I've always associated it with being a spring and summer pattern. Not anymore!
Day 2: Forte Top and Dress
Forte is the pattern with all the fun details. It doesn't have one shape, it has 4! I'm drawn to the unique lines of this pattern, the many options and how the bias cut bodice shape of Views B and D have an ethereal feel.
Pattern Details
The Forte top and dress features sizing from XS-5X. The pattern is drafted for knit fabric only with 4 different top bodices and 2 dress silhouettes. It includes 6 sleeve options: short with flounce, bell, gathered, short, mid and long. It also includes A0 and projector files.
Fabric
The Forte is drafted for light to mid weight fabrics. While this might not be the fabric you imagine for cooler fall weather, it's great for layering. I wear multiple layers in the fall and winter months so this Abstract Animal Jersey from Mily Mae Fabrics lends well to that. While I'm writing this, I realized a vest would be the perfect layering piece!
The light fabric allows the bell sleeves to float when you twirl. Ask me how I know.
Fit
In regards to fit, I measure between a Small and Medium. I chose to size down to a size small to have a bit more fitted top. I would still consider this a relaxed top, it just clings to the body due to the fabric.
Options
This make is the simple top (View C) with the bell sleeves. All the sleeves are interchangeable so while the photos show certain sleeves with certain bodices, mix and match as you please. I used the projector file to cut.
Modifications
I was short on fabric so I shortened the bell sleeve by 1". In hind sight, I'd do that again as the length is exactly where I like it. I find if bell sleeves or any loose sleeve is too long, then it gets into everything.
Would I make any changes next time?
Nope, although I think I'd give the gathered sleeve a try next time.

Here's a View A gathered top mashed with the LDT sleeveless cut lines to create a tank. It's made from rayon spandex stripes.
View B dress, modified for a straight hem and hacked flutter short sleeves in Mily Mae Fabrics Ditsy Daisy Rib knit.
